This service is to be used ONLY for listing astronomical equipment, such as telescopes and related accessories.
Placing regular ads is completely free of charge for individuals placing non-commercial and not-for-profit ads. If you are an individual selling with the intent of making a profit, you will be considered a business and will be expected to pay for ads. More on this topic further below.
After a period of time some users may be asked to pay a small fee for placing ads, prior notification will be given and fees will never be retroactive. Various criteria, such as the number and frequency of ads, the advertising pattern and ad types, will be used to determine whether a fee will apply.
By posting ads on Canada-wide Astronomy Buy & Sell (CABS) or by responding to ads in CABS, you agree to the following terms and conditions:
CABS is just a venue for sellers to list items (or to solicit an offer to buy items) and for buyers/sellers to browse the ads. We do not get involved in the actual transaction between the buyer and seller.
Due to privacy and identity fraud concerns, you can use an alias as a login ID when registering. However, you are expected to provide your real first and last name in the space provided - your real name is only visible to the webmaster. Failure to provide your real full name will result in denial of access to CABS.
CABS and its owners and operators have no knowledge of the quality, legitimacy, and accuracy of the listings. You deal directly with the buyer or seller at your own risk.
Because CABS and its owners and operators are not involved in the actual transaction between buyer and seller, in the event of a dispute during a transaction you agree to release CABS and its owners and operators from claims, demands, and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind and nature, known and unknown, suspected and unsuspected, disclosed and undisclosed, arising out of or in any way connected with such disputes.
In the event the CABS web site is hacked and names, phone numbers, and passwords are stolen you agree to release CABS and its owners and operators from claims, demands, and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind and nature, known and unknown, suspected and unsuspected, disclosed and undisclosed, arising out of or in any way connected with the theft of your password. To minimize problems we suggest you use a password that is unique to this web site.
CABS reserve the right to edit ads for brevity and conciseness and to delete ads that do not qualify as "astronomical equipment".
CABS is a free service thus CABS and its owners and operators are under no obligation to provide continuous service. This web site may be unavailable at times due to unforeseen circumstances, such as site maintenance or technical problems.
Commercial and "for-profit" advertising
Manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, or service providers (whether full-time, part-time, or spare-time) must pay for advertising. If you are unsure if you can advertise for free, contact the webmaster and/or see the information below:
Unacceptable free advertising:
- Multiple quantities of the same item
- Any kind of service
- Repeatedly placing ads with the intent of making a profit
- Repeatedly selling “brand new, never used” items
- Items on consignment with a dealer or retailer
Examples of unacceptable free advertising:
- Buying quantities of equipment at a close-out sale and re-selling it on AstroBuySell at a profit
- Buying items on eBay and re-selling them on AstroBuySell at a higher price
- Offering to modify DSLR cameras or web cams for a fee because you are an electronics expert
- Building items in your garage workshop and selling them on AstroBuySell
- Your telescope is for sale on consignment at a dealer and your ad refers people to the dealer.
If you do not agree to the above terms and conditions, please do not use the CABS.
